/freebuff

A free coding agent, paid for by ads instead of a subscription.

An open-source coding agent for your terminal, like Claude Code. No subscription or API key; small text ads pay for the models.

What it is

Freebuff is a coding agent that runs in your terminal, the same idea as Claude Code. You describe what you want, and it finds the right files, makes the change and runs your project's checks. There's also a desktop app, a web app builder and a chat.

It's built on Codebuff, an open multi-agent framework, and the code is on GitHub under Apache-2.0.

Why it matters

  • No subscription, credits or API key. Small text ads inside the app pay for the models.
  • 12 models in the picker today, including GLM 5.3 Flash, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and GPT-6 Luna. Several of them are unmetered at full access.
  • Specialist agents instead of one big prompt. Separate agents find files, plan, edit and review the result.

Get started

Terminal
npm install -g freebuff
cd ~/my-project
freebuff

Then type what you want built or fixed.

Before you use it

  • Your country decides how much you get. Supported regions get full access. Everywhere else, and anyone on a VPN, gets limited access: 25 Freebucks a day (20 on a VPN) across a smaller set of models.
  • Ads are personalised from your prompts. Freebuff says it may analyse prompts and messages to target ads. It says it doesn't give uploaded files or connected repos to ad providers.
  • Some models keep what you send. Space Bunny Alpha retains prompts, and any model marked for AI training can use your data. Read the notice in the model picker before you paste anything private.
